The Lamborghini Centenario
Exotic cars are common in the S. Florida tri-county area. They rarely turn heads except to prove how hip we recognize brands. One seems to be more exotic than another, but when it comes to describing a Lamborghini Centenario Roadster, we are compelled to pull out all stops. On appearance, you might say it is an extravagant, wild design, abstract supercar, innovative, elegant, and exotic. When you learn more about Lamborghini’s latest one-off creation, you’ll discover these adjectives barely scratch the surface.
The Centenario is quite possibly the most radically designed and engineered Lambo yet. Most obviously, Centenario’s wild design stands out against even the most abstract of supercars. True to Lamborghini’s core design DNA, Centenario’s silhouette features low overhangs in the front and rear creating a mono-body shape that is clean and sensuous.
But more significantly, this Lamborghini is at the forefront of overall innovation in the super-car industry because of its extensive use of carbon composites and lightweight materials throughout, from the body to the engine. Let’s add aerodynamic superiority to our adjectives.
Here is an overview of the Lamborghini Centenario technical characteristics.
Availability: Produced in a limited edition of 40 models: 20 Coupés and 20 Roadsters.
Engine: The 770 CV aspirated V12 engine springs from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. The engine is made almost entirely out of carbon fiber.
Transmission: 7 speeds with electronically controlled all-wheel drive with rear mechanical self-locking differential
Steering & suspension: Electronic Stability Control, push rod magneto-rheologic active front and rear suspension with horizontal dampers and springs, double wishbone fully independent suspension, hydraulic assisted power steering, Lamborghini rear-wheel steering system.
Body & chassis: Monocoque in carbon fiber, body exteriors in carbon fiber, aerodynamic rear electronically operated spoiler with three positions, completely paneled underbody.
Innovative Exterior Finish
Although the first Lamborghini Centenario Roadster delivered in California had a yellow accented exterior contrasting the carbon bodywork, the original models featured a signature matte silver finish. Lamborghini designers achieved a silky finish using a new high-tech process that dissolved the metal diminishing the appearance of the metal grain leaving a rich finish.
All luxury cars boast subtle and luxurious interiors, and the Centenario meets any expectation. However, engineering is at the forefront of every Lamborghini detail, and the interior is no exception. Lamborghini design engineers have achieved solutions for an optimal driving experience as well as cabin comfort. For instance, a channel located in the rear wall, in the back of the headrest, allows air to flow smoothly from the cabin towards the rear of the bonnet which minimizes turbulence within the passenger compartment. This flow also reaches the rear wing creating an increased rear downforce.
If you just have to have a Centenario Roadster, $2,500,000 will get you one. Of course, they all may be sold by now as delivery started in June 2017. Of course, you will always find one slightly used.
A One-off FYI
Considered a one-off, the Centenario is different from concept cars which are manufactured to be exhibited at international motor shows only. A one-off is approved for full use on the road, giving lucky owners an unprecedented driving experience.
